I mean, looking at the way things are shaping up, we've got a full-blown pandemic, an economic crash, no more tourism or vacations, no more festivals, no more concerts, no more professional sports, no more large social gatherings of any sort, no more going to restaurants or cafes, no more elections, next to no new entertainment... How can this possibly be even a half-decent year, when everything that might make life even moderately enjoyable's been shut down, taken away?

Some of the years during the era of the Black Plague were probably far worse. The time of the Plague of Justinian definitely was. 1942 in the Western USSR. Lots of examples.

Of course if China and the U. S. get into a shooting war 50%+ of the planet's population could perish within weeks so there is that.
