What are some ways to tell the difference between advice and criticism?

Both can be delivered in a good way or bad way. Advice is usually coming from a good place where someone made the same mistake before and does not want you to repeat it. It’s usually telling to avoid someone, something or some place. Criticism is someone objecting to you, your way or doing something they don’t like. It’s usually coming from someone who has no business telling you something but can also be from a loved one.

Advice is saying how best to do something. Constructive criticism is pointing out something someone is already doing/has done, that can be improved.

As others said, these aren't mutually exclusive. My advice is, if someone is always saying negative stuff about your behavior/goals and never offers any helpful advice (constructive criticism) then they're against you. If they try and give you advice that will help you that's different. It also matters if they would follow their own advice or not. If someone is telling you that you need to jump off a bridge but they never have that's not a good sign.

It's honestly hard to tell...

They are so close together but to be fair one is the purpose of support while the other is being judgy

Support you ask for and judgement you don't.

Yeah. "You should start exercising" is not really an advice.
