Do you judge a book by its cover?

Somewhat. For example, if someone has very nervous body language, I assume they're not very confident in this context. If someone is frowning, I assume they're upset. I don't assign 100% confidence to my assumptions though. I just use my eyes as part of my way to try to assess how people are feeling, thinking, their sense of style and tastes, their overall character. I consider those important pieces of the puzzle along with what someone says, how they say it, etc.
I don't judge things that have little or no effect on a person's character such as blemishes. The predominant things I tend to evaluate above all are those such as body language which I do think tells you a lot about the analogical contents of the book and not just its cover.
No!! If I actually judged someone by their looks only; I would of missed out on some great friends, and special interactions with certain friends.
You should always talk to a person, and learn who they are; you may find a great friend and lover in the process; or you may find your one and only. You will never find a good person, until you talk to them.
I have met women who looked great on the outside, but were horrible inside. I have met other women who did not look that great on the outside, but they had a great heart; and grew on you to where you desired more from them.
True beauty is not outer; it starts in the heart; it comes from the inside, and shows on the outside in how a person carries themselves!!
Only if it’s missing a summary on the back or in the front cover. I mostly like to read fantasy/sci-if novels, so I know that if there is a picture of Nelson Mandela on the cover it probably isn’t my cup of tea (no hate against Nelson Mandela or anything).
I'm more interested in knowing how they would have behaved had they been good looking?
Will they be humble or start having a huge ego and playing people?
Looks don't tell anything but the soul inside that person will tell a lot about them.

This is a great question! I got a little PTSD so let me give you my perspective...
I do not judge anybody based on how they dress, what they wear etc...
The only looks I judge people off of is body language and I read people's eyes...
There's a lot you can pick up about somebody and their intentions based off their eyes and body language.
I've studied psychology and sociology to the point that I can recognize, for the most part, when somebody is sociopathic, psychopathic, depressed, anxious,
Or somebody who is loving, when somebody is untrustworthy and out for their own personal gain, so a wolf in sheep's clothing. I can tell if you lie to me if you are afraid of something etc...
Based on body language I can tell who the person in the room is that you're attracted to, who has the most of your attention, I can tell when your mind is somewhere else... Etc etc...
Now, there's a lot of predatorial people in the community I live in. There's women who try to get men set up to be robbed by their drug dealer or boyfriend, by inviting them to intercourse. There's people that pretend to be your friend and end up whacking you over money, clout, drugs, or they want your woman, or they just don't want you around anymore. Sadly I've lost friends to this form of betrayal.
I can tell by somebody else's eyes though that they have a severe form of PTSD, because their eyes, if I cover a picture of one eye up with my thumb, it would be frozen in that moment that still haunts them, and the other eye shows more in the moment emotion. Some people, the muscles around their eyes stay forever stressed.
Somebody with a predatorial personality behavior, will have that in their eyes, like a psychopaths eyes are wide, and forever watching their prey, almost emotionless.
A sociopath on the other hand will be body language. They will act nervous as to constantly seek personal affirmation. They want to be the best thing to talk about, and often they like the most attention.
So through acts, body language, how people react to questions on how they feel about things, and their Eyes, yes I read about 100 people a day at most.
I do not hold people convicted to my findings, I just take personal note.
But as far as what people wear, or their height, teeth, nose, jawline, skin color? HELL NO. Everybody was molded differently. We gotta learn to love each other.
You can and it would make sense 75% of the time. Take a book for example. Would you label a book with a cover that doesn't describe the book? No, instead, you would make the cover something about the book, and then make it attractive.
Look's are the same way. You can make bad covers too
Yes, I do.
For example, if I see a pink haired, obese, tattooed, nose ringed, female rage monster I know that she is a Feminist, so should be avoided.
I am guilty of doing this. I once did not hire somebody to work in my department because he had a ponytail. It said to me that he was not serious about the job and would be a problem in the future. I might have been wrong about it but I went with my gut.
I really try not to. I’ve noticed if a person has a good personality they can appear more attractive to me over time. If they are an asshole, they start to look uglier.
To a point, of course, but I try and keep an open mind.
You are definitely one of the greatest people 😊
Unless you’re asking me out, I don’t judge anyone by their looks. If you are, I won’t date you unless I find you attractive, but for me that’s much more a function of personality than looks.
☺️☺️☺️
Nope. You have to open it up and read it. Lol. There a few instances where I should have. But you never know until you open it up.
As far as real books. Hands down the worst books ever written was the hunger games. It seemed like a 9 year old who didn't understand grammar wrote them. Lol
My character judgement is very good - and, unless someone gets involved by lies about me, and then reactions to those invented things - it works very reliably.
Is it based on looks? Not looks alone - looks, movements, interactions, facial expressions, in a given situation. Most of it is there (if not all).
Why people go testing or messing things up afterwards - I am still trying to grasp.
A cover gives you a rough idea of whether you might be interested in the book. The title usually lets you know if the book is on a topic you are interested in. The author's name can be an indication of the quality of the work.
Yes, sometimes it's very needed (where I live) it's just precautions.
Yeah but I also judge on the title and the blurb and sometimes I flick to the back...
I try not to..
I prefer to examine and understand their motives
GaG is the only place where people make the argument to judge others by looks, but don't want people to judge them on the same standard.
Weirdness.
No, but I DO judge the cover of the book! LOL I hold off on the book itself until I read some of it !! :-D
I judge people, books, movies, everything pretty much, but its cover. Movies especially I tend to be pretty accurate with according to whether or not I will like it.
Every one does it. It’s helpless. The thing is, we must not stop there.
I generally try to Page through it to get a better feel for it.
Rarely. Though I do judge by the author, and the first three chapters.
I try not to judge people until they show their true colors, either by actions or words.
It's really hard not to make at least a cursory judgement based on looks. Humans are hardwired that way.
Nope, I like to get to erm, know the book before making any sort of judgment about it.
Yeah, I am not going to expect bedtime stories inside of a Playboy Mansion magazine.
people sadly do this even if they don't know they are doing it. If you're dressed like shit you won't get far in life
Nah. Mine are usually missing covers and even pages. :p
Sounds good ;)
I try not to..
I do judge them by their personality tho
Not by their looks so much as their aura, ie do I feel comfortable round them?,,,
No I also judge it by its back as well.
We all do or have done
I do , just not in a negative light.
Never. I like to read the whole book before I see if it's good or not
i try not, but i am human and sometimes i do, but i am open enough to know when i messed up
Never judge a book by its cover
I use Kindle.
No.. I judge by the description on the back.
Since I dont like reading yes
no each person differnt
I try not to but do sometimes yeah
Yeah, and it’s usually pretty accurate
Maybe on a first impression until I talk to them
I have first impressions
I do when I don't have additional information
I judge only by screen names.
First impressions do it for me
Literally all the time. And so does everyone else.
I do not
A little bit
Sometimes!
Sometimes I do.
