There are millions of forums on the internet that cover many different topics. If you want to seek them out just search for forums with some topic in mind. Tons of communities exist that run on bulletin board systems like phpBB, Kunena, etc. If you are looking for a Q&A type of format, EasyDiscuss is a common platform to build communities like that. There are tons of software products on the market that allow people to start forum type communities and social networks. Most that exist aren't generic conversation, they are more geared toward a specific topic like certain types of cars, racing, video games, software development, gardening, etc. GaG started out as kind of a relationship advice forum but then it just got less focused and more trolly over time.
