I've had no real direct interaction with any of them (save perhaps at a zoo), but I have a soft spot for the kea because one of them once drew the attention of a passing monster in a game of Dwarf Fortress I was playing and managed to make it chase him off the map, possibly saving my entire fort.

To be honest I don't know any of them other then the Kiwi. I've only been to NZ once and never really had an opportunity to study any of the native birds. I did go through an underwater tunnel made of glass in Aukland and observed the ocean creatures.

There is this HILARIOUS YouTube video of a kakapo. The bird thinks the video camera guy is a female kakapo and begins trying to mate with his head LOLOL

Fantails are my favourite, I love seeing them fly around me when I go to the basin reserve gardens outside of town.

Kakapo. Because I first saw this silly bird on TV. I find it hilarious a flightless birds favorite food is a nut high in a tree. Watching this fat waddling bird climb makes me smile even in my darkest moods.
