You and your friends are out having a good time when a UFO lands in front of you. A door opens and extra-terrestrial beings approach. What would you do?

I think I'd try to talk to them and befriend them. I might get vaporized and be the type of idiot that tends to get killed in fiction but I figure I should try to make a good impression of our species or die trying. Besides, it might be even more dangerous to try to run away. I have no idea, so I might as well err on the side of goodwill.

Might also depend on how they look. I at least wouldn't do what those scientists did in Prometheus trying to pet those snake-like creatures that looked like they were poised to attack. I'd be at least more cautious than that.

I'm a bit of a Crocodile Hunter type and adrenaline junkie. At least when it came to wild animals, I never had the normal sort of sane instinct that people have to run away. If I chose such a course of action, it'd be through wisdom rather than fear, and I'm not a very wise person. :-D

So I at least don't think I'd have any strong instinctive urge to run here, and I'd have a lot of curiosity. I'd be able to think at least somewhat more level-headed than my friends who might dash in the opposite direction immediately.

But I think running might even be unwise here. If we're dealing with a species that is capable of traveling so far with alien technology, then running might be the very thing that gets us killed. I have no idea what they're capable of doing. If they mean us harm, we're probably screwed regardless. So I actually think the wisest option might be to try to show that I'm not afraid and mean no harm.

... but that's been a recurring trend in my life is that when people run away from something that seems dangerous, I tend to stay behind and want to investigate and see if there's an actual threat.
