What was your favorite job that you no longer have?

I loved my job as an administrative assistant in a biotechnology lab. It was so interesting to work with microbiologists, scientists, chemists, etc. I learned so much all of those years. The people in my department were great too.

There were two that I had a great time at when I was young.

In my teens, I worked stocking shelves in a large department store. I mostly did either pet food, candy or housewares. I was really good at bustling to load carts in the warehouse and keep the shelves stocked at all times. My supervisor loved me. But what I liked was the ability to goof off, drive electric carts all around the different large warehouses, and smoke weed when I had my shelves stocked up. When several of us had to go round up shopping carts in the parking lot, we would smoke weed as we worked. I also got to eat my fill of candy.

In my early 20s, I worked in an automotive muffler parts warehouse. At first there was a LOT of walking to fill orders, put parts in large boxes that we pushed on flat rolling pallets, and get them ready for shipping. I hustled that that job, too. One time the boss asked if any of us knew how to drive a forklift. I raised my hand even though I had never driven one before. When I got on the forklift, a driver automatically showed me what all the levers did. It was easy. So I got to drive a forklift instead of walking miles a day on a concrete floor pushing heavy boxes.
Then, the boss put me in charge of filling customer service orders, which meant that I would drive the same electric carts they had at the other job I mentioned, and fill small orders. When there were no orders to fill, I could drive all around the large warehouse and smoke weed. At lunch time, all the other guys and I would go into the parking lot, smoke weed, and play hard core Frizbee.

So, those jobs suited my lifestyle when I was that age. This was in the early 70s. I hung out with hippie/surfer/rocker-types, was a guitarist, had long hair, surfed, played sports and Frizbee, and played in rock bands. So those jobs were carefree and the ability to smoke some weed from time to time made them not feel like work.

When I was 26, I got a professional job and grew up. LOL

I was enlisted in the Marine Corps. I got severely, and permanently injured due to bad leadership and negligence. So I was medically retired from my service in 2018

I absolutely loved my job. It was adventurous, exciting, and I got to defend my country. If they ever called me back to arms, I would answer the call in a heartbeat.

Well now I've not had that many.

But I think I miss bartending the most. Interacting with all the people, hearing their stories - see into the world of different people. Though it was a little bit to exciting for a 18 year old to be dealing with grown ass drunk men - but nothing growing up in that environment didn't fix.

Before I went to law school, I was a mental health counsellor and prmarily worked in the emergency room. It was a fast-paced, interesting, challenging job. While in law school, I worked in the Florida Legislature for two years as an intern; it as a high-profile, important, and fun job. Those two are tied for my all time favorites.

Kinda hard to say. i loved being in the band and playing our music for the fans but, as I hardly saw a dime from it, I don't know that it can be called a job.
I've been trying to get a job in a record store, radio, or even a pressing plant since I was old enough to know where my nose was and that my finger could fit up there but, so far, I've hardly had ANY such jobs!! The couple times I DID work at one, it was fort a couple days just to help out or one 5-hour shift every other week either cleaning albums or stocking the shelves in the warehouse!
I had a great time working at the print shop for 11 years and the couple years I worked at the dinner theatre with my future ex-fiance was a lot of fun, too. The 2nd print shop job wasn't much fun because the boss was a bit of a tyrant that treated everybody like idiots.
Building swimming pools was cool, too, except that a bunch of the guys I had to work with were still children fresh out of high school and treated ME like shit just because I was older than them and actually cared about the work we did and actually busted my ass doing it while they spent half their time at a site lounging around. Eventually, the boss saw this and started taking me on jobs either with him or by myself because he knew he could trust me to get the job done well and right!!
And, doing the voice work in those two movies was kind of fun. I hope to get back into doing more of that if I can EVER get my recording gear up here!!

The summer before I went to college I built swimming pools. It was hard work but I worked with a bunch of cool guys and we had a lot of fun. The owner had a boat and used to take us water skiing sometimes.

@exitseven I always wondered how you hey made swimming pools. I find it interesting. Actually I have a real phobia if I am around an empty swimming pool. They scare me so bad. But water skiing - that's so cool!

@sage2021 This was the old days. We dug a big hole in the ground and installed steel walls in the whole. We had a truckload of stone dust dumped in the hole. We use do smooth out the stone dust and make a diving well. This was just done with a 2X4. A transom is used to make sure the steel walls are level. Then we installed the liner and smoothed it out. We made a form out of lumber and poured concrete in it for the diving board. We would just find a nearby electric circuit and just tapped into it for the filter and lights.
