I'm not giving investment advice, (I'm not qualified), but if the economy totally fell apart and stores were only accepting precious metals, I would say silver. You can carry 1 oz. and 1/2 oz. coins and buy groceries and stuff since silver is around $30 USD /troy oz. With gold, even a 1/10 oz. Gold Eagle is around $300. It's tiny and easy to lose.

Either if it's profitable, probably gold if I was honest because I can't lose on the real stuff that gets missed but silver you have to guess the weight when you pick it up and work out if it is worth buying
