How to explain a 9 year old kid that humans are relatives to monkeys?

I need to be able to explain 8-10 year old kids how is it that we are primates, just like monkeys. But I need to explain it in a way a kid of such age can understand me.

First, how can I explain that we are animals too?

Explaining that we are animals is easy. Just compare your body to that of a dog. Both have arms, legs and feet, a mouth, nose, two eyes and two ears, and hair on the body.

Humans are not actually relatives to monkeys. A long long time ago, early hominids and apes evolved from a common ancestor, but evolution has caused such diversity that humans and apes are not related.

Perhaps start by compaing monkeys to apes? Mention the physical similarities in build and behavior, and then companies e them to humans.

I think you're overthinking. 8-10 year olds are pretty smart. You could just say it how it is and ask if they have any questions
