Anyone put a swift box up?

My house is in rolling hills of oak grassland. It's not swallow habitat. But there is a nearby creek with a wide bed that's dry most of the year. A low bridge crosses it. Swifts must nest under the bridge because I've sat and watched them flying like little jet fighters. They're really cool.

I've never seen them up the hill by my house, though, where we have a wide variety of woodland-type birds.

I didn't know that swifts were endangered. That's screwed up.

It’s because all the old barns were perfect for them nesting it. They have since been renovated or removed.

I didn't think of old barns. There are a few around. I've just never looked for swifts around them.

They like to nest under the roof. So the little bit that sticks out, they go under this.
I put up my first swift box today. Got it from Amazon 🙂

Very cool. What part of the country do you live in?

East of England. There are swift’s in my sky, but very few places to nest. It’s just too easy to install a swift box, and relatively cheap in the long run, so I think.. why not?
I walk past every house and not one has catered for these vulnerable animals 💔

Yeah my teenager daughter loves birds we built a huge swift box on the side of the tree house I built for her it's like a real tiny house there a flat screen and tiny furniture in there in my back yard in the woods I made for my daughter when she was 4 years old she asked me for her own princess castle Soo I built her a tree house and called it her castle lol but yes swift box on that:)!

Yes there a lot of birds and there's a bunch of turkeys marching around the neighborhood and they living in the woods behind my house 4 big ones and 6 little ones lol it's bird Central back there lol but yeah all kinds of birds flying around... Rabbits, squirrels, deers, coyotes I even seen deers it's like Jurassic Park back there lol !

I’m very jealous. Looks like you are the right man for the habitat. I’m one of very few who live in my area who actually cares about the wildlife in these parts.

There a Forest right behind my house and my daughter loves all animals she takes pics and writes in here notebook :) doing research on the wildlife whatever makes her happy I will build whatever she needs!

Swifts like to nest in groups so it's worth putting a few boxes up and encouraging your neighbours to do the same.

I’m gonna try, it’s funny you say that cause I’ve noticed that since I started planting trees my neighbours did the same.
I hope this swift box thing catches on. They’re nesting time is now. So let’s hope inspiration spreads fast!
