Who has bought a bed-in-a-box?

I want to get a new mattress but cannot afford $2,500 for one. I'm interested in a bed-in-a-box mattress. They have so many kinds available I'm lost as to which is a good one that won't break the bank. I've tried several but they didn't help my back any. I am a side sleeper and just can't sleep for more than 3 or 4 hours at a pop. I attribute to this new bed I got. If I remember right I got a purple mattress. Who has bought what and how did it turn out for you? Do you like it or regret it?

Has anyone tried Sleep Number? How does that work out or is it just for people who snore or like different hardness levels?

I have tried 3 different types of the beds in a box, both with springs and without. They have all broken down within months and ended up giving me back pain and I would wake up feeling unrested. I don't recommend it. I saved money by getting each one, but since they didn't last or work as good, I could have just got one good bed and I would have been better off.

I finally got a good quality bed that was discounted because it was returned in less than two weeks because the previous customer found it to be too firm for them. It lowered the price by around $1,100 if I remember correctly. Try asking a furniture store if they have any slightly used (pretty much new) ones for less.

I've never used a foam mattress. We've had so many different mattresses. They always failed. We made sure to get warranties on them. Usually 3/4 of the way through the warranty we would need a new mattress. We always upgraded to a better one. We would pay the difference, Usually a few hundred dollars but got a better mattress than the last. Our current mattress retailed for around 2900.00 but since we upgraded it only cost an additional 600 dollars. It's super comfortable and extremely heavy.

If you have a bad back, you need a mattress with good support. I don't think you'll find that in an all foam mattress

They do have highbred foam mattresses that have a layer of memory foam and also springs. I note that on camping trips I always got good sleep on an air mattress, provided they didn't deflate during the night. You go to sleep comfy and wake up laying on the ground in the middle of the night. Then you have to keep pumping it up.

Amazon might honestly be your best bet.
I used to own Casper but it breaks the bank. I will say, the mattress was amazing though. The only reason why I got rid of it was because it got really mishandled during my move to a new home.

How did mishandling damage a mattress? Most of these foam mattresses are indestructible..

The movers dragged it on the floor. On top of that, it literally looked like someone slashed the mattress with a box cutter. When we inquired after, no one magically could give us an answer.

Oh of course. Some clown probably slit open the box it was carried in during moving with a box cutter and the clown cut too deeply. Make sure you give the movers bad reviews.

I've had a couple. The one I use in the study's daybed is fine for migraine days. Nothing I would want to put to use with any activities though.

We consistently bought from a local, private, family-owned mattress tore. 5 great mattress seats over two generations. They started going to the "green BIAB" concept, and their beds are now junk. We took our prior bed, put it in the guest room, which I now use. The new bed is just so bad!

I'm not sure if this is what you mean but, I just bought a mattress that came in a box about 12" square by 3' tall. It's a memory foam mattress and it was only $150 at Amazon. I just started using it a week ago and, so far, no complaints. At least there's no wires poking me in the ass like the last mattress I had!! And it's not a marshmallow like the last one, either!

@FunkyMonkee Wait, 12 " sq? That is the size of a doll bed. 3 inches is not much better than a board. The one I have now is like 12 inches thick and it's a Queen mattress.

The box was 12" square x 3' high. The mattress inside is a twin. It's rolled up very tightly and wrapped in plastic like Saran Wrap. You unwrap it and it unrolls itself then, you just have to let it sit for 24 hours before you can use it so it has time to expand to its full 8" thickness. At that point, it's 3' across and over 6' long.

Oh. I bought one twin size but was remodeling my bedroom so it sat in the box for months. That's what I got for not reading instructions that said take out within 24 hours. It never did inflate fully so was not comfortable. 😟

Some say 24 hours, some say 72. Mine SAID 24 but that, I could actually start using it before the 24 hours was up. However; I ended up NOT using it for at least 5 to 7 days! I just wasn't yet ready to make the switch, either no time to do it or other factors that kept me from it. So, it had a good LONG time to inflate!

I bought a Linnenspa for a little over 400 bucks and it's proved quite useful over the past 2 and a half years. Had to purchase a queen size frame from Walmart for 60 bucks, but still cheap as fuck for an entire set.

Great, though I wish I'd chosen a model that was more firm. It's actually become too comfortable. I'm pretty much 6 foot and a mere 160 pounds but still sink a little into the mattress. if you're a side sleeper... and you're also taller than average rather than shorter, I would suggest you to try a body-size pillow to sleep with if you're not doing that already... it might make a difference for your alignment as you do sleep

I do have one but it doesn't help much. I have to keep switching from laying on one side to the other when my back starts hurting.

well, basically... there's two types of mattresses, the soft ones and the firm ones... personally, I need a firm one because any soft mattress won't do good to my back, so that might another factor

I bought a queen size Zinus queen sized bed a shy over a year ago for under $400. It’s very soft and feels best with new pillows and on a box spring. I don’t regret it. It’s not heaven but it’s comfortable and I get solid sleeps, it’s clean as well!

Do u have a pad for in between your knees so they don’t cross when u sleep? I’m a side sleeper too but I sleep on a Japanese futon on the ground. The pad between the knees helped my low back to not be sore when I wake up.

I use a body pillow sometimes to keep my knees separated.

Every mattress has different levels and specifications. I got the Greet Tea option and now think it was a gimmick and does nothing except get more money off you.
