Do you take your car to an independent mechanic, or a Stealership to have your car repaired?

I would never take my car to anyone.
I just painted some couples house and I did a lot of extras for them his car was broke down he had a Honda and I told him what the problem was and he took it down to this car mechanic he gets a phone call in the mechanic tells him he needs a new motor the guy says he'll talk to his wife and get back with him but his wife tells me what the guy said I said you need a $49 part that's all the next day I get a phone call they want me to come over so I can go to their house and they have a new Jeep Cherokee in their driveway and they said you know you did some really big favor and give us a good price on painting the house and you did a beautiful job so we want to thank you and give you something and I said what is that and he has me the title to the Honda I said really you don't need to give it to me and he said well our son just bought us this car is cheap so we got to get that other car out of the mechanic shop he says it either sell it to them or have them do the work to it and he doesn't want to do either one so he's giving it to me so I go down pick it up run another test on it I go down and get the part put it in start it up drove it over to the guy's house they said here's your car he said it runs and I said yes I told you didn't need a new motor that guy was bullshiting because now I want you to have it that's okay fine let's see that's what I mean that's why I would not take my car to any place
I dont usually trust anybody go work on my stuff I do all my own work no matter what it is but it is possable to find honest independent mechanics I know a few where I live It would be cheaper but I also know a GM 5 star master machanic that works at a dealership that does side jobs out of his own garage. If they are wanting 700 bucks to do a brake job then they probably are not honest it really depends on what is wrong with your car if it is a complicated problem your better off at dealership, you can also check out a particular shops review online and if you do seek out the bad reviews to see what your dealing with
First time my computer obsessed city slicker ass has heard of the term "stealership."
Answer is the dealership because it's still under free care and it's a reliable as hell car with very low usage so it's not really necessary to do more.
I think a car dealership makes more money on Warranty repairs then they do selling new cars. They make all their money in the back room fixing things and charging a lot for it. What is why they are called stealerships.
Dealership. They have all the maintenance records and their system keeps track of any open recalls.

An independent. I have known the people who run a local garage my entire life, the person who used to run it lived opposite my parents, he sold it to a friend of mine, etc. they also only charge a small fraction of what the dealership charges plus they give me ‘mates rates’ and I never have to pay the tax on my bill if I do it in cash. But they don’t cut corners and will always take care of safety above anything else.
My truck is 29 years old so it’s old enough that I can fix 90% of the problems on it myself since there aren’t computers in it like there are today and it’s very open under the hood.
but when I do have to take it to a mechanic I take it to a independent one my father knows.
I honestly don't trust any of them and would love to learn to fix everything on my own one day. But I will say it's not nice to take it to a stealership sometimes because they have access to all the recall informations and will replace the parts for free I hope they replace them anyways lol
Fix it myself. I have many friends that I can get opinions / advice from & I lover reading books. There's a few things I still take to the shop if it's something real serious. Currently my vehicles jacked up with the engine dropped 8 inches with the water pump off & 2 snapped bolts. I'm waiting on Amazon shipping for some reverse thread bolt extractors. First time doing any of that.
What year is your car? Seems kind of scary to work on cars with computers and sensors and all that. Make sure you use penetrating oil on the broken bolts before you use the easy out.
Both depending on which car we're talking.
Supercars can only be serviced by dealerships.
True, it would be like someone working on a jet plane.
Any repairs that I can do myself. I do myself.
A friend had a Ford pickup Garage said the engine was bad. I said not! Garage replaced engine. Truck shut off while driving home from garage after new engine replacement.
Truck needed carburetor work. Not an engine!
I have taken my car to all three and have done work on them myself as well. Certain things like a transmission I would only bring to the dealer.
to friends of mine...
so I know they won't rip me off, lol
I take my vehicles to my daughter's boyfriend who owns a repair shop. I never went to a dealership
Was he good enough to drive the extra 40 miles
Dealership if it's under warranty.
Specialist that I've known for most of my life otherwise.
Well of course it goes without saying that when it is under warranty you take it to the dealer so you hopefully don't have to pay money out. You do that after they can't fix your car.
It's still under warranty so I take it to the official dealer.
I'd prefer a trusted (read personally referred) independent mechanic that I can negotiate with. That said I was ripped off by one.
UK here. I take my car to the dealership I bought it from. They're not cheap but everything is up front and I trust them.
I don't trust any mechanic. I've found the less I take my car to them, the less it breaks. Odd how that works hmmm.🤣
Usually independent unless I have to take it to the dealer for the warranty
I do all my own work... Every except body work and I have a friend for that.
I would never take my car to a stealer ship for any reason at all if I could avoid it
One local shop we know about.
Authorized service stations
Sindependent 🙂
