I think sipping from a straw is one of the most unmanly things you can do. it's just something that you only see little children and 18-year-old girls at Starbucks doing. But you get a free pass if you're injured or handicapped and can't quite use your arms or open your jaw or something.

Otherwise, I think it's just so damn effeminate. Girly. Beta. Just chug your drink like a damn grown-up!

A straw can be a life saver if you have a beard and are drinking something on the move. I mean drinking out of glass and hitting a bump in the road can make a mess as it is. But when you get that crap in your beard it sucks. More so if it's something thick like a milkshake or smoothie.

I have facial hair too and I've never had trouble chugging anything. My facial hair doesn't grow overtop my lips, so I don't understand the beard argument.

It's really based on the cup. Like most cups you get at a Panera (although it's actually St. Loius Bread Company) or Subway the straw makes it far easier to drink from those cups.

Using a straw at restaurants is always a good idea, better than just drinking from the glass. I know several people who work in the restaurant industry, and you wouldn't believe how glasses are (not) cleaned.

Nah bro we may have to catch a fade lol im a germaphobe when it comes to cups i ise a straw i dont ever share cups or bottles or anything so if it is i use a straw. I remember every realationship i been in women would be super angry with me cause i won't share food with them or their drinks lol and the weird funnny thing is my dad is the same waay and i never even knew that until i lived with him for little as a kid.

I don't see it as strictly feminine/childlike. My boyfriend prefers straws most of the time so he doesn't get anything on his beard. My dad's a big man, looks like a 6'7 European lumberjack, he's got a metal straw he takes everywhere.

The problem is the flimsy cups you get in many places aren't great to drink out of so I get why everyone uses a straw.
The old medical term for drinking alcohol through a straw was "sucking the monkey".

I prefer to use a straw for very acidic liquids that would naturally corrode my teeth.
