Did you know that Woolly mammoths were around the same size as the modern African Elephant?

I noticed a lot of people were surprised to hear that because they thought it was way larger.
BUT, there were enormous species of mammoth. The columbian mammoth which lived in North America until ~11,000 years ago which was about twice the size of an African Elephant (12 tons). You also had the larger Steppe mammoth which was ancestral to the woolly and columbian mammoth that inhabited most of Eurasia and weighed up to 15 tons. The Steppe mammoth was mostly extinct by ~200,000 years ago but it may have lived in northern China and Mongolia until ~33,000 years ago meaning modern humans may have witnessed it.
