How connected animals become to their offspring is related to how much resources they've invested into then and how easily they can be replaced. So an animal that has one offspring a year or less and has spent months raising it will be more "upset" than one that drops a big litter every few weeks that need little attention.

Of course they do especially the mothers who have to care for them up to birth and afterwards. Cats, dogs, and even cows feel distressed sometimes when their babies are taken away.

I think what purplepoppy said is pretty accurate. I've witness my sister's cat dump a huge litter, and showed know signs of grief when one of them died.
