Should I adopt a kitten?

SolitarySolace
One of my friends/coworkers has a kitten he and his girlfriend are trying to find someone to adopt because they have too many pets of their own. I want to adopt it, but my dad thinks I can’t afford to take care of a pet because I work at a thrift store for $11.50 an hour and I work between 7 and 8 hour shifts. I also live alone. I live nearby an Aldi and Walmart so I could go to those places to get cat/kitten food and litter and stuff. And there’s a pet supply store in the area too. And there’s also amazon I could order stuff on too. I believe I could prove my dad wrong. And my friend said he could help me care for the kitten and said that worse case scenario if I find I can’t afford to care for the kitten after a while, he and his girlfriend would take it back and find it a new home.

Should I accept the kitten? My apartment does allow pets, but they add $25 to the rent which is already $700. My friend thinks I could just take the kitten and not let the apartment know I’d have a pet. I don’t plan on letting it out. It would be an indoor cat. My friend doesn’t think they’ll find out if I don’t tell them. And even if they do find out, he thinks the worst they’ll do is add the $25 to my rent.
