German is a very hard language compared to, say, English. So you’d need to deal with it if you live there.
- +1 y
It’s not a hard language lol
German is one of main languages taught at school here, the other is French. - Asker+1 y
How come it is not hard? Have you ever seen those different articles and declension for each type of words? Each adjective takes its shape by the article of the word it qualified. And there’s no specific rule regarding the articles of words. You need to memorize them all one by one.
- +1 y
The RAF was based there, there are exchange programs with the Luftwaffe.
You are talking to someone not writing them a book.
- Asker+1 y
True. But you still need to know of the articles and declension in order to talk to someone in German.
- +1 y
We learn German from an early age and have both oral and written exams in it….
- Asker+1 y
The Allies, which the UK is a part of too, invaded Germany after the WW2 hence why no wonder a force of the UK was based there.
- +1 y
Erm actually they did it during WW2, please try and gets fact right.
Also erm Stalin and Russia …
At least learn history - Asker+1 y
Really? I didn’t know you guys learned a language other than English. I mean, German is linguistically considered to be the closest language to English, but it’s still pretty different lol. In accent, British English sounds like German.

Only some English accents sound like some German accents
There is not British English really
Every 15 miles or so the accent changes - Asker+1 y
Wikipedia:
Following the collapse and defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II, the victorious Allies asserted joint authority and sovereignty over Germany as a whole, collectively known as Allied-occupied Germany, defined as all territories of the former German Reich west of the Oder–Neisse line, having declared the destruction of Nazi Germany at the death of Adolf Hitler (the 1945 Berlin Declaration). The four powers divided "Germany as a whole" into four occupation zones for administrative purposes under the three Western Allies (the United States, the United Kingdom, and France) and the Soviet Union, respectively. This division was ratified at the August 1945 Potsdam Conference. The four zones were agreed by the United States, United Kingdom and Soviet Union at the February 1945 Yalta Conference, setting aside an earlier division into three zones (excluding France) proposed by the September 1944 London Protocol. - +1 y
Oh really never knew that
- Asker+1 y
You told they did it during WW2 tho.
- +1 y
🤦🤦🤦 sarcasm
Read about crossing Rhine etc,
Battles in 1945 Germany by Allies
That is like the invading part
The bit you mentioned is the occupying part
Two very different words - Asker+1 y
The Allies started the process of the invasion of Germany during the WW2 and they completed this process after the WW2. So what’s your problem?
- +1 y
No problem.
You do not understand difference between invasion and occultation,
The Germans invaded France then occupied it.
You cannot complete an invasion after peace has been declared 🤦🤦🤦🤦
You start to occupy the country, it’s basic English - Asker+1 y
Oh fair enough. They both correspond to the same word in my native language thats why I used the word “invade” and if I said the Allies invaded it during the WW2. It’d seem like as if they stopped controlling over Germany after the WW2 ended. Though that was not the case since the authority of the Allies lasted until 1990 when Germany has been reunified.
- +1 y
There was no authority of the allies over Germany once it sorted its government out.
The air bases and camps were basically protection for the Cold War. - +1 y

Ok. You are the best knowledgeable person about history and semantics while I’m an ignorant. Sorry mister.

You’d learn German

UK for sure. I don’t speak a lick of German, much easier to go to another English-speaking country and just figure out the dialect there. I think I’ve seen enough Ted Lasso to hack it by now😝

Couldn’t you learn German
- +1 y
I mean, I could…. but that feels like “doing stuff”, and I’m not really trying to find extra stuff to do, haha
- Asker+1 y
Oh I see then. I heard it was very hard to obtain a UK visa though. Maybe it would be easier for you as you are a US citizen.
- +1 y
Ohhhh, ok, you’re thinking more practically. I’m just talking hypothetically. I haven’t the slightest clue about obtaining visas or how to officially emigrate somewhere, haha

I've spent time in both countries. Germany would be my choice. Less crime, better roads, Euro currency, better food, easy to visit neighboring countries, the Alps, and Oktoberfest in Munich.
00 Reply 2.3K opinions shared on Other topic. Between the two, definitely not the UK. So I guess I'd choose Germany.

I spent several years in Germany. Enjoyed every minute of it. I think I'd rather go to United Kingdom and spend some time there. I think that would be fun, to meet distant cousins
