Is bow hunting cruel or not?

Many people around the world are into bow hunting, like the Americans. Is shooting a deer with a bow cruel? Runs off and bleeds to death. Some people say they go to sleep and don’t know what has happened. Any bow hunters on here? Love to hear from you.

With a lot of these things, bow and firearms, it comes down to skill at arms and the ability to kill the animal quickly.

with a lot of deer stalking you get someone with cash and limited skills shooting at a dear and the idiot aims at its head. Your point of aim is at a vitals region.

If you cannot hit a vital region at say 200 yds should not shoot deer.

They also need to understand, ammunition types and impact on animal, also windage, and other marksman principles.

With archery it’s even more so, I have a huge amount of respect for any fucker that could consistently hit a deer with a long bow.

With a bow, it then depends on the type of bow, long bow (flat bow), recurve, crossbow, compound, as each has different draws, different poundage and power, this then impacts range, type of animal hunted and range it is hunted.

Whereas the rifle such as a.308 is in hundreds of yards, with a bow it’s say max 40yards, ideally circa 15-20 yds.

this is because you need to take out all those ballistic things that will impact your shot.

in Field archery targets do not usually move, in hunting the animals will move and change position, you still need to get in one of those vital regions, it’s just now aiming and power becomes more critical as wind has a bigger impact on arrows.

If a person is training to hunt and has been taught properly, ideally has a 2nd gun handy if an animal needs despatched quickly then no it’s not cruel, as long as it is for food.

That brings the final bit, shooting purely for pleasure is cruel.

Try going on a deer cull and you sort of lose that pleasure bit.

i do not include peasant shooting as that is for pleasure and fun.

I used to practice archery but never killed any animals with my bow. I would have if I had the chance. Most bow hunters shoot from pretty close, and that's hard to do with deer. They probably don't suffer much more than being shot. People have been killing deer with bows for like 50,000 years. I think it's fine if you are going to eat them.
