Think about it this way. You get something unexpected (like a job). You think it's purely luck. But you have applied for it, you faced the interview and they selected you because they think you are a better choice for them.

Is that luck? Or have you just misjudged your own abilities?

It's when chaos is landing in your favor. So basically anything that is out of your control. A job interview has multiple factors you don't have control over, who is doing the interview, what do they like, who else has applied to the same position and how good are they etc. So there is plenty of room for both good alignment and bad alignment, which would tip the scale. You can't really do much about it so you have to settle on improving your own merits until you get what you want.

There is an element of chance to the hiring process. The hiring manager has certain likes and dislikes and maybe the first choice for the job turned it down.

Yea luck happens. But you can't count on it so you have to make good things happen on your own.
