I'm prone to think we should just abolish weeks. Days are based on Earth's rotation, years on its orbit, months on the moon's, but weeks... weeks are purely artificial. And I maintain it's downright WEIRD to have days named after Norse (and Roman) gods when the Gregorian calendar is based off the birth of JESUS. Week defenders will insist that the names come from PLANETS, and that works for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, but none of them have ever been able to show me where the planets Tyr, Woden, Thor, or Frey are (I also object to September, October, November and December not being the seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth months anymore, but that's just misnumbering; not really a religious matter).

I mean, if we're going to keep THOSE names, we should at least act accordingly; on Thursday we should attempt to drink the entire ocean, on Friday we should propagate the Swedish population, and on Saturday we should eat our children.

Or we could pick better gods. Either way.

The problem isn´t Monday but the change from break to work day. No matter which day it might be, it will always be annoying.

I think it depends on your attitude towards that they. I for example like a Jewish tradition or calculation that the day starts with an evening so it already starts when I go to bed not when I wake up.

For me that eases the stress a bit and helps me prepare for the next day ahead and I´m way more positive when I wake up because the day has begun with a longer nap so to say.

In Israel, we have our weeks beginning at Sundays and ending with Saturdays, so Monday is just an average day for me.

So.. I'll give my opinions on Saturdays!

Here in Israel many people are religious Jews, Muslims, or even Christians, so on Saturdays, everything is closed, all clothing stores, all stores except these small Kiosks that sell Drinks, snacks, or lottery tickets, that's because they follow what god did in the bible, he rested on the 7th day, so.. knowing my luck. my birthday falls on a Saturday, kind of sucks.

it's also our only day to rest in the week, we work / study 6 days a week and return home for one day.

Quite the contrary. Monday signifies the opening of the market for the week. And given the state of the stock market for the last month and a half it's been a time to stack a lot of paper. 🙂

In general on Monday I think Mondays should be abolished, but in other days I usually realise that abolishing Mondays would only signify that Tuesday will become the new Monday. Maybe we should abolish workdays.

I agree Monday's ought to be optional. Why don't we go to four day work week with 10-hour days. Then you'll have 3-day weekends. It could be Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday. Either way you do 40 hours.
