Mine would be a house. Been renting apartments my whole life it would be a relief to have a house of my own.

I would buy apartments in Toronto so that I could rent them to students who are studying. I would open banks in third world countries by offering micro loans. I would host bridging and gardening programs to help poor people in crime ridden neighbourhoods. I would hire lawyers for victims who cannot afford good legal representation. I would host social events for widows as well as providing pet care for blind people. I would offer micro loans to abused wives so they can begin a business. I would offer free treatment programs for drug addicts and alcohol.

I understand the desire to not deal with a landlord any more, but owning has its own dramas. Maintenance? There's no one to call when something is broken. Those problems are yours to fix. Welcome to paying real-estate taxes. OUCH.

It isn't something everyone can take advantage of, but renting in a rent-controlled market could be a win, especially with higher than normal inflation.

First thing I would do would be pay off all the debts of my friends and family as well as my own. Then I might buy a new little place somewhere, maybe a new car. I'd give a portion away to charities and then invest the rest.
