Kitchen door (s) or NO kitchen door (s)?

Which do you prefer?

One of the apartments my family and I lived in when I was a kid had a little sliding kitchen door and I remember thinking it was so cool. 😂 The door eventually got stuck, so we had to stop using it, but I enjoyed it while it lasted. 😆

Sliding doors also called pocket doors are a magnet for money. If you or friends have kids I guarantee that they will push something in the slot when the door open. Had one in previous residence. Friend was trying to close door but he realized he couldn't do it because I looked inside the slot and discovered that daughter had put "Goodnight Moon" and a bout 6-7 other books. the way to get them out was tearing wall down remove offenders, put wall back together. They tend to pop out of the roller track after some use. No kids probably okay sometimes you don't have enough room for traditional wall. If there other options I'd explore them

we need kitchen doors... down here

our kitchen doors do lead to the grill and BBQ and pit area outside

and the kitchen is perhaps the MAIN room in the whole house, especially when you're entertaining

my grandma had a kitchen, with a door that lead to a second kitchen... and that second one also had a door that lead to the grill, BBQ, pit area outdoors...

great food all over the place, of course... lol

My house was built in the late 50's. Between the kitchen and the bedrooms there was a pocket door that slid into the wall. It kept the noise down when someone got up early to make coffee while others were still sleeping. I don't it myself. It came off the tracks once and it was hard to repair as it was between 2 walls. I haven't used it since.

My apartment has a sliding door between the bedroom and kitchen. I keep it open 90-95% of the time. I don't have a preference, either way.

I get up early, make breakfast, then go to work. I do not want to wake the rest of the house. Pocket door would be perfect. People in the next room often talk. They do not need to fight the sounds of dinner prep. If something burns, keep the smell from the rest of the house. Every one of those situations needs some kind of door.

A door to the kitchen may help to keep cooking odours away from the rest of my home.

But as my home's cooking is ( mostly :D ) nice - I don't see a need for that.

Grandma had a kitchen door that always was open: so the towels hanging behind it to dry did not spoil the view.

My parents had a door that always was closed; so that the corridor next to it would be dark.

Most doors are silly, actually :)

It depends on the space and the layout and other things. If it's on a hinge, probably not: those eat up space in a kitchen. The sliding pocket doors are fine.

If you don’t eat in the same area, doors to the kitchen are troublesome. Carrying food, dishes and accoutrements between the spaces can be risky or downright dangerous. No bueno!

Building regulations in the UK state that you must have a minimum of 2 doors between a toilet and a kitchen, the reason being that the air is contaminated by the toilet.

It was covered by an episode of Myth Busters if you are interested.

It depends! I have had both and I keep it better maintained if it's separated, but it's damn convenient not to. If you have a mini fridge, you can have a door!
