"WD-40" means "Water Displacement, formula 40", and it was originally designed for the US Air Force to protect Titan Missiles in their silos. I would not use WD-40 on wheels/rims, etc, as oil/grease will only serve to trap grit and dirt. I would thoroughly clean your rims than put a coat or two of a high-quality wax on them. This will not only make your rims shine, it will shed water AND dirt. Just IMHO.

i'd just use the pressure washer at the next car wash. if you really wanna make the tires look good for example for selling your car, i'd get some tire shine.

WD-40 can loosen the grime and even rust on steel wheels but that might leave your wheel oily even after spraying it off with water.

No, it will clean them but it will leave a sticky residue that will just attract more dirt. Use wheel cleaner or car wash soap and a sponge.

It leaves an oily film on the wheels which only collects more dirt and dust thus making your wheels even dirtier than they were to begin with
