'Drive' by The Cars - That's a good one!
Here's a song that is reminiscent of a change in my way of viewing life.
It was the last song I heard before I, as a young teenager, foolishly semi-accidentally overdosed on my prescribed antidepressants (long story). It's funny the things that a person remembers, isn't it? It was the introduction to a very long period of self-searching. As for the song itself, though magnificent in its own right, I previously thought it held no extra special meaning for me. Upon re-listening to it today, maybe it does hold some meaning for me. Being true to myself and wondering what that might ultimately mean, that sort of thing maybe. Anyway, it reminds me of a turning point in my life.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/hc_q_zb7ntsThis last song reminds of the era in which I began to see most of the people that I hung out with as just 'people I know', not necessarily friends.
I wasn't aware of the meaning of the song when it came out, but I unashamedly loved it's beat, its lyrics which were in a language foreign to me, and its catchy melody. My 'friends' thought it totally sucked.
That era was the beginning of my going my own way in life.

There are lots of songs like that. But I think the ones most like that are the ones I can't think of atm. That's because the songs that tend to be most nostalgic are the ones I haven't heard in ages and forgot all about.
One that I can think of is White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane. It's such a trippy song. There are very few songs that evoke such a memory and feeling of an era.
Night Moves by Bob Seger is very nostalgic for very personal reasons.
There are several songs from the 1970-72 era that always remind me of a time in my life when it seemed like everything was so chill ( which we called mellow back then instead of chill ). A couple songs by Cat Stevens like Wild World, and Father and Son. Maggie May by Rod Stewart. Let it Be by the Beatles. Lay Down by Melanie. Are You Ready by Pg&E. Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues.
The list is very long.
The weird thing about nostalgic is that they have to be good songs. They might be songs that you thought sucked at the time and still do. But they can still bring back memories.
There are many such songs in my mind. One such song came out in the late 70s. I was dating a girl I had every intention to marry when she cheated on me and in fact was impregnated by that man during that trip. About 3 years later we both attended a party for a mutual friend. Had I known she would be there I would have stayed in Atlanta. By this time I was over her. She had a friend ask me if about her and me speaking. I walked to the host and said I was leaving and told both he and his wife bye. I walked close to where Terri stood and started humming this song loud enough that I know she heard it. Since she knew the lyrics as well as I did she knew what my answer was. This song brings back MAJOR nostalgia because it was the day I knew I was over Terri and I smiled as I heard her collapse in tears as I closed the door. Yes, I'm an asshole!
