I have never had that problem before because I never owned a car before and just been home bound forever.

It depends on where you are. Few places in America have decent public transportation, but you're generally okay in those that do; I could get around Chicago pretty well using just the trains and buses. Here in Florida... not so much.

I used to be a distance runner so I could always run someplace if I had to. You could still hitchhike too. Not having a car was not the end of the world. Today however it is a little different. I don't get around as easily as I did.
