I'm not against either case. I remember when I was a little kid (not sure how old exactly but younger than 6) and wishing I was slightly darker so I could look like my mom more. The people around me are a different mix skin color wise, it's usually the hair that's an issue because the curlier your hair is, the less people know how to deal with it. It's usually only people with equally curly hair that know what to do.

I am not sure what Melanin is, but I think it has something to do with skin color.

If that what it means.

Then I wish my skin had that permanent tan look, because in the winter, I am Mayonnaise White

At this point I'm happy where I am with my body. I'm not sure pretending to be something or someone I'm not would be of any benefit to me or anyone else.

I think I'm just going to be happy with my pale Irish skin :-). I don't have freckles, and I wear a lot of sun protective clothing, or lotion.

More. I’m half mexican but don’t look it, while my sister is light but has a more indigenous looking facial structure. I just look like a red faced, reddish/brownish necked white guy with a farmer’s tan.😂 My mom does say I look just like one of her uncles but with brown eyes instead of blue, so that counts for something.

Black is in the sense of an olive skin. I don't get easily sun burnt and I make adequate Vitamin D. Perfect in my book.

It's hard to decide if I'm being honest because darker means racism and lighter means sunburn. I guess I stick to what I have because I kinda avoid both.
