I don't know that I agree with your assessment that journalism is a joke or bullshit. Some is, for sure. Much is not.

Your opening assertion that news channels sell news not report it is fascinating. There's a lot of truth to that with one big 'but' -- at the core of what they've put together there's still news. They may be selling it, they may be spinning it, they may attach lies to it, they may twist some things but there's still news at the core.

That said, EVERYTHING these days is selling to us. There's nothing that isn't branded, massaged, packaged, advertised, and designed to sell/appeal to us -- the news is no different.

If you get your head out your ass long enough, you'll get more oxygen into your brain. That might give you the required epiphany to understand all news outlets are businesses and corporations. Hence, have a bottom line and payroll.

To pay the bills they need to make good content that people are willing to pay for, and advertise on or with. This isn't news.

During the riots in America, the left wing news said it wasn't happening. They also said that the caravans weren't heading to America. They weren't selling anything. They were paid to read what was on the screen.

In my country there are TV channels that support a particular political party. They clean all the messed up crap those politicians do, in return they receive profits from them. Same with newspapers.
