How does the EDD (Unemployment) verify wages?

Your employer is required to report wages paid for Social Security, and unemployment benefits (yeah, we ALL get to pay those). However, even though they report it when their paydates occur, it's not like unemployment will know the next day. It may take a couple weeks for that info to show up on a system they get their info from. Effectively, their data is usually a couple weeks behind actual pay checks. They may ask you to bring a recent pay stub to prove you're getting income and how much.

Can I apply during my final week of working prior to getting furloughed? (Federal employee)

I don't think so. However, if you look up Federal Gov't furlough and look at their FAQ's, i think that Q may be on their list. The Feds have z TON of info about what you're eligible for and when.

I take it this is in response to the possible Gov't shut down due to the debt ceiling not being raised?
