What do you think of a dinosaur called nigersaurus?

Niger is Latin for black, so a nigersaurus would literally translate to "black lizard". If that's what the fossil points to, it would be a valid name for the dinosaur.

Worth noting that the Latin word "niger" is pronounced "NI-JER" and the Niger country in Africa is pronounced "ni-ZHARE"

Technically we don't know what color it was yet, it was merely named after the country it was found in. So it would be pronounced ni-zhare-sore-us.

It's a rather small nigerian rebbachidaurid sauropod that lived from about 115 to 105 million years ago in what is now the republic of niger.

Same as I think of all dinosaurs, weird looking and names for where it’s found or a defining characteristic. They have weird teeth though.

Shouldn't we change the name from the place it was discovered to something more scientific?

I mean the Wuhan Flu isn't called that in our enlightened and informed world these days.

Names only get changed if they are preoccupied by another non sister taxon, or if there was a differently named specimen of the same species or genus discovered before it, that went unoticed by the people who named it. Or if they find out one species was actually was 2 or more species of the same genus, or if they figure out a specimen was a chimera (bones from other species in the single specimen). Or if it is so fragmentary that it's discovered later that the species itself never existed or wasn't what we thought it was.

It might have been black, it might have also been any number of other colors though.
