Great now i gotta go talk to my crush at the skateboard store with a redass face 🤣😭 Best part of the parade was my gma screamin THROW SOME CANDY YA GREEDY BISHES 😭. The music was on point. The sports cars were beautiful. My mom wouldn't shut up screamin WOOO! Nobody want fckin beads/frisbies/cups/debbie cakes/caprisun lmao. They were greedy with the candy haha. I caught a football! It is not exactly a Madi Gras Parade but our St Kilda street festival is on today. It is sort of fun but outside people take up our cafes and you can't make a phone call cause the towers are busied out. Still there are bands on the beach and that's good.

St Patricks here is mid march, probably the same as you. No parade other than drunken Irish staggering around on the street.

Sadly Australia does not do parades as well as the US. Parades would cut into drinking time :)

Yea Fat Tuesday is just a frozen bar. there's a different Fat Tuesday which is similar to Mardi Gras and people used to skip school to go to it. But this was a “family” style parade. People of all ages, even newborn babies just gettin down to pop/rock/rap/etc as the festival carts and sports cars ride around half the city throwing candy/beads/toys etc

Dude i am a guest at the parade along with the rest of the cityfolks. There are newborns, toddlers, and people all the way up to age 80 attending this FREE parade. There are black, white, mexican, indian, japanese, etc folks attending. Who tf cares about whatever you are failing to explain? The parade is hosted by colleges and sponsors. How tf are we culturally appropriating when its a mixed bowl of cultures hosting it and attending it. You got an issue with something that you’re not explaining very well. I didn't know different versions existed, My experience of it is basically just snippets from tv. I recall bead necklaces, lots of boob flashing, parade floats, huge crowds, and fair food. thats about it.

I've been attending mardi gras since i was a little toddler and i only ever been to the family friendly kind that had no flashing. I didn't know about the type you’re referring to until i was 18 but i still never cared to go to that kind. The ones here do have beads, candy, parade floats, sports cars, booming mysic, and huge but spaced out crowds. Its not body against body but more so side by side. We didn't have fair food because everyones too busy catching candy and beads and footballs, baseballs etc

I went in 2004... before Hurricane Katrina... It was the best trip I did we drove from Canada to New Orelans... the food and ambiance was amazing...

Our parade is pretty spaced out. It circles the entire block of maybe 50 buildings. Its a lot of people standing outside but very spaced out. You always wanna stand back far from the others to catch the good stuff
