I had been planning to go to Boston Calling this year, the headliners at one point were supposed to be Foo Fighters - Rage Against The Machine - Red Hot Chili Peppers, pretty incredible lineup, for my money anyway. Or I guess that was the pre-Covid 2020 lineup that I was hoping would get pushed to 2022. Rage dropped out, The Chili Peppers dropped out, and Foo Fighters obviously lost Taylor Hawkins recently, so they ended up bowing out as well. Metallica ended up being the best name there, who Iād definitely like to see, but Iām big on being right up front at shows, or close enough to get into the mosh pit at concerts where that stuff is happening. I hate being half a mile away just watching a band play on a big screen. I want the experience, āI SAW those guys play LIVE!ā, and really see them up close. If I go to your concert, I probably hold you in pretty high regard, so I really want to be there in the moment, having my favorite artists performing my favorite songs, close enough that I see them truly āin-person.ā
When I go to festivals, the crowd is just so big, unless I want stand up front six hours early and not drink any liquids so I donāt have to leave for a bathroom run, Iām stuck in the middle or towards the back, usually, with a bigger crowd than the indoor venues, so it just feels impersonal. I saw Greta Van Fleet at Boston Calling in 2019, and they were great, but I still feel like theyāre on my bucket list and I need to see them somewhere smaller. I saw Bone Thugs N Harmony two Fridays ago in a small venue, and Griselda a week before that, also at a small music hall, and I couldāve thrown something to them underhanded, I was so close. I went to Austin City Limits, fucking flew to Texas, just to see Guns N Roses, and they were cool, but again, I was so far from the stage. Then I saw them again at Fenway Park last summer and I was right in the pit up front. Way better that time, so if I didnāt love visiting Austin anyway, that GNR show was a waste of a plane ticket. At Fenway, Slash was like 30 feet from me ripping a guitar solo. Iāll never forget that. Thatās how I like to do it.
So Iām not sure where I am on festivals these days. I love the idea, but I feel like you get stuck making tough choices on who to see when two acts you like are playing at the same time on different stages, with the earlier acts before the headliners close it out. Iām also old, and not lame, but my friends are lame, lmfao, so my concerts are always solo missions, itās not like I go with a whole crew and have fun on our own, itās 100% about the musical experience for me.
There was a festival in Vegas called When We Were Young, and it was just a whoās who of 2000s pop punk acts. Iād love to go to that since pop punk is my guiltiest pleasure lmfao. But it was over two weekends, plus conflicting show times, etc, etc.. If they ever did it in New England Iād be wicked down, but I probably shouldnāt be dropping $2,000-3,000 just to travel for concerts, stay in hotels, pay for rental cars, etc. Definitely has been fun every time, I donāt regret it, but it gets pricey. A cool life experience is for sure worth it though, so sometimes you just gotta live your life with some purpose and do what makes your heart sing. See the world, rock out to some good musicā¦. doesnāt get much better than that👍

I've never been to a summer festival and I'm not going this year either. The pandemic isn't over yet. Plus I live in the second country with most cases in the world. 😬😬😬
EDC was cool, but no more festivals this year. Just a few concerts.

I went to the festival called Kakava Festivals celebrated in Turkey last month, in May. I don't think I will go to another festival this year. Kakava Festival is a festival organized by Gypsies (Roma) to celebrate the arrival of spring. It is celebrated on May 5-6 every year. If you want more information, you can send a message.
I never plan ahead enough⦠I would love to go to one though! That sounds so fun!

I don't know if I'm ready to be around that many people at once yet
Nothing planned yet but I'm only 10 miles from Leeds so I might just go to that one last minute
There isn't anyone I want to see that's worth going to a festival for.
No I really don't like the idea of going. But hopefully you do enjoy it when you go.
