I'm watching National Geographic's Alaska's Deadliest documentary on Disney+ right now. Do you have any favorite wildlife documentaries? I want to add new options to my to watch list.

I don’t watch them because documentaries are supposed to be more of a source of information than entertainment to me.

And most of these documentaries are very misleading and often give you utterly false information most of the time so it’s just not for me.

And it’s nice to know that you like to watch wildlife documentaries, they can be very fun and entertaining but PLEASE take all the information in these documentaries with a grain of salt. Do NOT take all that information as fact.

Especially NatGeo. NatGeo has given out some absolutely terrible, completely false information in the past so I would not recommend using these documentaries as a source of information.

I've been following NatGeo closely, have watched many of their documentaries, and would like to know what information they're giving wrong. Because in the documentaries I watch, there is information that I think is very useful and seem like fact when I dig into on the Internet. I am interested in the information part, not the entertainment part. Do you have any other documentary suggestions?

They say, Siberian Tigers are the largest types of Tigers, which is wrong. Bengals are the largest as per all existing reliable records and new scientific literatures published on this subject. Bengals are largest than Siberians both on average as well as maximum size.

But I was willing to forgive them for that because most sources get that information wrong so I forgive them for that.

But then NatGeo went even a step further and claimed Siberian Tigers can be 13 feet (4 metres) long in length which is absolutely absurd. Not even a single Siberian (or Bengal) Tiger in recorded human history has ever been 13 feet long.

Then they went on to claim that Siberian Tigers are 300kg (660lbs) which is also wrong. The largest Siberian Tiger recorded in the wild was a specimen hunted in the Bikin, Ussuri region and its body was partially eviscerated when it was weighed and weighed 249kg.

So it’s actual weight was estimated to be 270kg. Then there was another Siberian Tiger in 1925 in the Trans-Amur region which weighed 254kg.

So there’s no reliable record of a 300kg wild Siberian Tiger.

This is why I never take any information from these sources seriously.
