An empath us someone who derives joy by helping others without any benefits incurred.

For example recently I helped two people find the location in the building I work in they were seeking. I had no reason to do so, nor was I asked. I asked if they needed help and gave it to them because it would help them.

I like to be helpful, yes...

but I would not say I particularly enjoy it... especially when someone is in trouble and also hurting, there is nothing enjoyable about that

perhaps "like" is not the best word here, I would rather there was no need to be helping others in distress, so they wouldn't suffer but that's not life is it? so I just try to be helpful

once things get better... I do get a feeling of relief, not joy... I do feel good for them, yes

but I would not call it an enjoyable experience, it always takes a toll on everyone

Nope. It's gotta be transactional for me. But of course, sometimes I'm okay with their payment being gratitude and acceptance of my gift. But just not all the time.

I know empaths and they do not experience “joy” when they go through others emotions specifically pain and sadness. Its traumatizing and has lead them into something like a spiritual warfare

Nope. I have a hard time feeling empathy to begin with, much less enjoying it to that extent

I am, but what you described is altruism and general kind consideration, which is just one aspect of an empath. Still a good quality for anyone to have though. Good for you. 👍

The joy we experience is inherent in the process of helping others. When they are joyous at the result of the help, we feel that.
