An empath refers to someone who takes empathy a step further, by literally being able to take on other people's feelings as if they are their own. With this in mind, it's important to note that just because you have empathy does not automatically make you an empath.

a lot of people seem to have different opinions and perspectives about it...

going by your definition... no, I am not an empath, and I would not like to be either

I do have plenty of empathy yes, however...

if I were to make the emotions of others my own emotions... that would mean that I would have to be selective and then I would have to choose and decide on which of them people I have to take their emotions and make them mine

because there is no way that I would want nor be able to take in the emotions of everyone around me, that would be in detriment of myself and others, and it would render me inefficient to be of actual help

also, I would assume that it would just be temporary... as in, I would also selectively feel bad like them, but then I would just go on my way and move onto the next and feel all happy and excited again?

that does not seem to be healthy to me, nor genuine... copying and absorbing the emotions of others is not as helpful to me... as having a decent amount of empathy and helping someone you can help when you actually can help them

if I were an empath... I would have died that day in which I visited a hospital that focused on kids with cancer, that was a LOT for me to take and it did kill me a bit on the inside, but most of it, I definitely blocked it and had to block it... because well, I had to be of actual help and focus on my task to be of actual and genuine help to them, even if just a little

Spiritual/emotional powers are there, but sometimes... elusive. Takes some "tuning" of the emotional/spiritual soul.

yeah but now it's used incorrectly and it's annoying to me 😂 so now i dislike the word. Because some people say ohhh i'm an an empath when they can't even be empathetic to others, they fail to even put themselves in other peoples shoes🙄. how can you be an empath without being empathic? it's beyond me i'm out!.

Many people use these terms interchangeably and as you note, incorrectly.

i think using them interchangeably is okay because those words are related my issues is some people are just way off the radar way, off key by thinking and seriously believing that you can be an empath without being empathetic, they then make empath refer to being shy, or emotional... basically using the word incorrectly as you said.

Yes, yes I do especially with the death of someone else’s mother like I’ve experienced that before, so I know exactly how it may feel
