Why do people get supicious if you change your phone number - like I did do to constant scam calls - to something else?

I changed my phone number earlier in the week due to constant scam calls from the UK - signed up to the course that seemed good turned out to be shit - and found that some of my contacts were supicious as to why I did.

Mind they weren't so relevant, more assoicates, so I was not bothered but at the same time seriously.

My now girlfriend supposedly broke up with her then boyfriend two days after I asked her out, then changed her number that same day.
In that case, it was very suspicious. Almost like she was just cheating on him and got a burner phone to text me with lol

I had an uncle who was in the real estate business in New York and he used to change his phone number all the time because so many people wanted to sue him.
