Prime Tyson was the size of a cruiserweight, moved like a Middleweight and hit like a heavyweight. Tyson had good defensive skills and was just as technical as Roy Jones Jr. If you look at the fighters Roy fought when he went up in weight they were all handpicked like heavyweight ruiz, they knew Roy would be too fast for him to deal with, they waited until Lenox Lewis retired as undisputed champ before letting Roy challenge for a heavyweight belt. Even though Roy competed at heavyweight, cruiserweight, light heavyweight, super Middleweight he is a natural middle weight and meeting anyone who's any good at those weights he's not going to win so prime Tyson at heavyweight or even if tyson came down to cruiserweight Roy won't win. Roy went up in weight because he was getting too slow for the Middleweight division and didn't want to fight Steve Collins, Chris Eubank Nigel Benn, Joe Calzaghe, Gerald McClellan.
Tyson wins knock out. He already beat him in the senior citizen tour fight no way that was a draw
lol and they call it a draw
Roy would not have stood a chance with the 1988 Tyson. Roy was a great middleweight but too small to stand up to Tyson at his prime.
Exactly
But how was it a draw tho in their match
It was a promotional thing, and Mike Tyson didn’t want to hit him in the faces a bunch of BS
Yea right due to it being a charity thing and tyson wasn't trying to knock him out
Right
He mostly just went to his body
Exactly
Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones jr stands as the textbook example of how to put on a big-money boxing exhibition.
Here we have two marquee names, as big as any in the sport. Since retirement they have kept themselves relevant and in the public eye through podcasting, commentary, interviews, business ventures etc. and most importantly they have kept themselves in shape.
Tyson surprised everyone when he announced his return to the ring, since this appeared to be the furthest thing from his mind as recently as a couple of years ago. However, for whatever reason his mentality changed, and his business brain sniffed an opportunity. And what an opportunity it was. Since the dust has settled, it appears Tyson-Jones made somewhere in the region of $80 million. Not bad for a pair of “old-timers”.
Not only was Mike Tyson in excellent shape, and able to put on a great show with Roy Jones jr, he has proved there is a massive market to see legends of the sport face off against one another in an exhibition setting. This is an all-round success for Iron Mike (although a dangerous precedent for some other boxing retirees we might mention…).
Tyson was impressive for his age. But in reality this match up was pointless even for an exhibition. Roy Jones Jr is a middle weight and one with a weak chin at that. He was merely trying to survive in the ring with tyson, let alone try to beat him. He has no business fighting at heavyweight. Tyson should have fought another retired heavyweight from his generation. There is a long list of them. Maybe a rematch against some of the guys he lost to or fight one of them he never fought before.
Tyson said he is "good with" the draw. Jones says he's never satisfied with a draw but said Tyson is strong and everything he hit with hurt.
That’s crazy money
I want to see Tyson VS Evander Holyfield 3 rematch
I know right , I think after tyson bit evander's ear... he didn't want to face tyson again. I wondered who would've won if they fought earlier like in 1989 or 1990
Not sure great fights
