Car people would this work?

I drive a 2010 Ford focus. I do NOT have a roof rack. What if I got a Rubbermaid bin and strapped it to the roof of my car with several ratchet straps? Would that work going down the highway?

It would have to be a really hard/tough rubbermaid container that doesn't buckle when you strap it down. I would look around and see what else is available that is rigid and made to go on your roof. Last thing you need, is it falling apart on the highway or busy street and causing an accident, as you you would be liable for damages.

It might work from an engineering perspective but check the laws of your state. Probably not legal and thus an easy ticket for a cop or state police to fill their quota with.

I would recommend one of those rooftop duffle bags that is soft. They can be strapped down and likey to cause less damage to the paint and roof. Also a box could cause you to get less gas mileage because of drag.

Doubt it. Could get blown off and maybe kill everyone behind you.

So i rather be safe and either get a real solution or rent a car if you only need this once.

Like a load on any commercial vehicle you will need one strap in front and back (to keep is from sliding) and at least one on top. It should work but Its a crap shoot of the State Police will agree.
