If you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?

I'd say mine would be the ringtail (and if I move back to the Southwestern USA, I'm seriously considering getting one after my cockatiels pass away).

One reason should be obvious: the ringtail is adorable. It's a close relative of the Raccoon but while Raccoons can be quite feisty (even if hand reared) ringtails are the opposite. Apart from being aesthetically adorable, they are very docile animals and can be tame and affectionate pets even when caught in the wild. They are great for pest control and will eat all kinds of unwelcome visitors in your house such as mice, scorpions and hornets.

And while cats and dogs are often seen as opposites, it was only ~45 million years ago that they shared a common ancestor and that ancestor would have closely resembled a ringtail (even having similar coloration). In this animal you can see features reminiscent of not only raccoons but also cats, foxes and ferrets (since all three of them evolved from a similar animal).

To clarify, this question is asking which animal would you want to keep as a pet, not which one is your favorite.
