Yup. I’m convinced the first place I rented when I moved to the city was haunted. The overall ominous feeling in the basement, the fact the dogs hated to be anywhere near it. The fact my phone went missing and was balancing on the door hook when I didn’t put it there and was the only one home. But there was one time my roommates had left for 2 weeks, I was taking care of the house and the 3 dogs. One night they’re losing their minds in the kitchen and all come running into my room. A loud thud and I go check it out, all the cupboard doors are open and the water jug on the table was knocked off. Both doors were locked and the kitchen was freezing while all 3 dogs were cowering behind me with mine kind of between my legs switching between snarling and whimpering. I moved away really quick after that.
my dog stares at the tv mainly, he does love trash tv
When I had my little Yorkie "Hanzel", I swear, one night that dog started barking at the plant in the corner of my room, and it wasn't just any bark, but the kind of bark when someone is at the door. For 20 minutes, he went on and on. He was barking like something was coming at him. His heart was pounding when I put my hand on his chest. I think my house was haunted. Dogs can see spirits.
Ever since he was a puppy, he did things like that. One time he was barking at his food dish. There was food in it, and he had water in the bowl next to it, so I know he wasn't thirsty. And he liked the food because it was Purina and he loved Purina, so I know he wasn't picky about the food.
I miss my doggie. He was the weirdest dog I ever had, but smart and friendly.
He's not staring at "nothing" he's staring at his ghost friend. My mom's dog that I gave her at least. I don't have a dog currently.
My rescue kittens do the same thing. I think they have different ghost friends. We all get along though. It's cool.

Before thinking of ghost nonsense, just keep in mind dogs hear far more and better than humans. If the dog barked at a plant in the corner, he most probably did actually hear some sudden little rustling noise, due maybe to some dry leaf falling or a mouse or insect moving. Dogs can misinterpret such unexpected noises that made them jump in alert, and their reaction then is always the same: barking...
Our dog often stares out the window at nothing in particular. Maybe she sees something that I don't; her eyesight is better than mine. She does like to chase after bees and flies, and they are way too small for me to see.
No, but my cats do. It's like they are spacing out. I often wonder that cats are thinking about.
Yes, he likes to stare at the refrigerator/freezer after the icemaker dumps ice into the bin. That lasts about 2-3 minutes.
Yes, I have a Maltese named Marilyn Monroe, she stares at me and barks, another time she barks at me when I get up to get a drink or use the bathroom, also she protects her food and barks like I'm going after her dog food.
Keep in mind that even humans see "floaters" in their eyes, or think we see something in the dark, then turn the light on and realize it's something else. But humans are intelligent enough to understand these things, a dog is not, and thus, they might fixate in things thinking they are something that they are not.
All I can tell you is that they sure as shit aren't looking where I am pointing, dumb bastards.
Yes sometimes he will just stare into space. It doesn't scare me. All my dogs did it.
I don't have a dog, but I have a cat that does this. 🫠
You'll have that on occasion, yes you will. You'll have that.
