A frying pan caught a bit of fire and my stupid cousin attempted to pour a small bucket of water. I yelled at him and slapped the bucket out of his hands, making it splash on the floor.

The place would've erupted and he was worried about his stupid speech on how that's still violence, that it's not right either way, what if it was him doing it to me, etc. I don't think that's the right moment for that type of speech.

I felt it was either that or he would've pour that water and his error would've cost him dearly.

What you did wasn't violent. You rescued him from serious injury and may have prevented the house from burning down.
Hitting him upside the head with a pan for being such a dumb ass would have been violent.

Would he complain of violence if you pushed him out of the way of an oncoming car?

This exactly. I did what was a response of a real urgent matter. Calmly explaining it to him wouldn't have done a thing; he would've done a devastating error, a tragedy would've happened.
I had to educate him and show him videos about it afterwards. He finally got the message, finally thanked me for it.

A metal lid was placed and the fire quickly disappear. I had to teach him through educational videos afterwards, videos about what happens when splashing water on a grease fire. Finally he got it. Wow... I'm shocked some people don't learn that from an early age that oil and water don't mix.

You saved both his and your own life so I would say what you did was just fine, show him a video of what happens when you pour water onto a grease fire and see how he reacts.

I did showed him videos afterwards. He was shocked and finally understood. He thanked me afterwards. It's quite shocking that even with google and youtube, some people haven't learned that oil and water don't mix.
