As for me I have saved up enough to where I can live comfortably for a while if I ever lost my job. As for the roof over my head as in my house I paid it off before I was 40 & now I’m saving & creating budgets for future unseen hiccups. I already have a budget for a new vehicle, I’m saving up for a new roof & new heating & air conditioner unit & also a whole house generator. Retirement is another story & I’m good there too.

Paid off my house around age 39. Everyone told me I was an "idiot" to pay the mortgage off early. Over 100k in savings now and travel international regularly. My day job pays ok, but it's the no mortgage that excelerated my life.
