I have different personalities, depending on who I am with. I do believe I'm my most authentic self when I am with my parents, to be honest. There's nothing holding me back from mouthing them off or cracking stupid jokes, I am just very comfortable around them - especially my mother. Even with my friend groups it varies a lot. I can't use one personality with a specific friend that I am comfortable to use around a different one, either because we aren't that close yet or because that side of me isn't compatible with them.

With people who I don't know I am usually distant but polite and I am good at smalltalk - just to make the situation less awkward. But unfortunately, many think I am genuinely interested in what they have to say or in them as a person. And that's rarely the case.

People who I don't like most likely will either sense it immediatly bc I like to start discussions just for the sake of it or I am the nicest person ever and they'll never have a clue - just so I can indulge a little in the idea of knowing something they don't.

True. I notice that I tend to be good at nudging people towards topics that actually interest me. However, it's the hardest with people that you have to keep a professional persona around. It really limits the range.
