How did you do your trick or treating as a child?

I went to Walmart, the mall, and local businesses mostly. I did go to homes of people I knew well off. But my grandparents always thought the mall and Walmart were safer because our local Walmart each department gave out candy.

Just went to people's houses, mostly stranger's houses because when I was growing up people didn't put razor blades in holloween candy, and EVERYONE decorated their house with ton of Halloween stuff, way more than you see today, plus there were usually street fairs with decorations everywhere.

Stores had candy sales before holloween so people could pickup enough candy to give out to kids, but were closed the day of, and they never gave out candy for free, instead people would buy stuff at street fairs during the day, and visit random homes at night.

Some people even set up their homes as haunted houses for you to enter and get candy at the end, it was fun.

We just went to houses in the neighborhood. My father took us when we were really little and when we got a little older we went out with a bunch of the neighborhood kids. There was one year when we walked up to main st and into some other neighborhoods. We must have gone to over a hundred houses.

I lived in apartments for half of my childhood, so during those years we would go trick-or-treating in my grandma's neighborhood (sometimes with my cousins, sometimes not). Then we moved away and we started going trick-or-treating with my cousins on the other side of the family and we'd just go around where they lived.
I don't think I had gone trick-or-treating in my own neighborhood since I was probably 4 or 5.

We walked a mile up one side of the road then back home down the other side. The houses were far apart but we got lots of treats.

Always just went through my neighborhood

I didn't because my parents were religious.

When I was very young, my mom would take me up and down our street. She made a lot of my costumes and some of them were awesome.

When I got old enough, I would go with friends. And over the years, we traveled farther and farther, covering many blocks. We even started carrying pillow cases for collecting the candy because they wouldn't break or tear.

I have never celebrated Halloween. It is all seemed rather childish to me.
