@love_conquers_lust what is wise anymore that doesn't require knowing the future? Is it "ripping off the bandaid" or is it "poking the cocoon." There's no way to know until it happens but i suspect it is subjective. Ideally, this would just drive some small but manageable portion of the population mad while the rest of us develop thicker skin, and that small population would diminish with each generation.
Unfortunately, I think maybe it is considerably larger than can be managed by the rest of us and with the internet constantly throwing in people's faces that all religions are probably made up, the mad people who need it to believe themselves permanent are collectively lashing out for validation. And so we get things like christian nationalism in the US. Assuming we survive long enough as a species, in 200 years or so people will think it nuts that anyone at all is even considering voting for the guy who tried to start a civil war. But because he offers validation through the promise of bringing christian nationalism and the mad people far outnumber what they ought to, combined with the fact that allying with people so desperate is the only way rich thieves can get away with writing future theft into law, there's a very real chance he could win.

Our sanity is already tampered with. I'm just trying to explain the problem, not invoke it.
