I do not like tattoos. When I was young, a tattoo meant one of three things:

1. You had been in the Navy,

2. You were a habitual criminal, or

3. You were mentally ill.

That is not a joke; that is how tattoos were perceived 60-70 years ago.

The way to adorn your body is with clothing and jewelry particularly chosed for the particular occasion. If it's near Christmas, you wear Christmas colors and women wear jewelry that includes representations of wreaths, Christmas trees, etc. But you wouldn't dress like that on July 14.

Tattoos are permanent and what you perceive to be "cool," or what really represents how you feel now, may be widely inappropriate a few years from now, but you can't change the tattoo as you would change clothes or jewelry. And I've never seen a person who became more attractive because of tattos or piercings, but I have seen many people who have become so obsessed with tattoos that they look grotesque.

My mother is the same way. She’s in your age group, and she hates tattoos too. We’ve come a long way from where we were 60 to 70 years ago. Tattoos are very socially accepted in our culture today. I love them personally, and will continue to get more of them.
