How to deal with the death of a pet?

Few years ago my father brought home a fledgling. He was not supposed to remove from the ground as usually the mother leaves it there so it can learn flying. i had zero idea what species it was and how to take care of it. I googled and took him to a pet store who didn't help me. I fed him the wrong type of food instead of worms i fed him fruits and formula. He fell from my hand once to the ground. The bird survived 1 week then died. I found his head slumped down and i was traumatised by that. I loved that bird and i can't forgot how he trusted me to handle him over everyone in the house as if he hoped i save him. Years later and i still feel horrible. Any advice how to deal with that?

I don't have much experience with pet loss, but from what I read I think you shouldn't overthink it, it's true that you made a mistake but it wasn't your intention and I'm sure that the little bird felt your warmth and love towards him! Learn from your mistake and cherish the good memories. It's not bad to feel sad about the loss either, but the idea is not to be tormented by it and move on with life, is what I would recommend

Give yourself your time and if you feel comfortable, look for someone who can listen to you, we all suffer losses in different ways. Hope you get better 🫂
