My texts show as unread even though he texts me every morning on WhatsApp?

We did have an argument as a couple but at the same time could it be a technical issue or what?

There is an option to turn of read messages on your phone. So if he disabled it you or any of his other chats won't know if he read the message or not. Meaning no blue check mark
