This is evidently a very cold week for the Northern Hemisphere. Many flights in Canada have been canceled because it's too cold for the deicing liquid to work, and schools throughout much of the United States have closed because of the cold. It's even colder than normal in Europe.

Where I am, in the mountains of Southeast US, at midnight on Tuesday night 16-Jan-2024, the temperature is 17F (-8C), and it's forecast to go down to 14F (-10C) by morning.

Happen to be in Michigan at the moment where I am visiting family. Never fun to be in my home state in the winter. In fact, I favor outlawing fall and winter altogether. I believe the year should start April 1 and end on August 31 and then return to April 1. Rinse and repeat.

This time though, we have hit rock bottom. There is about 6 inches of snow on the ground. It had been a wet snow and now has frozen rock solid.

The temperature of this white misery? The high today was a toasty 7 degrees (F), The low tonight, -5 below zero (F).

We’re out of our polar vortex, I think it’s moving more south but last week it was anywhere from -30 to -40°c and up to -50°c with the windchill. Today it’s -16 and feels like -25°c. The weathers nothing we’re not used to but it was a shock to the system when we’ve been unseasonably warm. Tried to take our dogs for a walk today but it’s so cold they were limping and carrying their paws.

Media keeps banging on about snow and freezing weather but here it's around 5°C during day and 1°C at night. Next week it's supposed to get up to 11°C and drop to 8°C at night.

We just came out if the deep freeze that we had for a week. It got down to -46C and with the wind chill it was -56C. About 1 hr from here with wind chill it got to -65C.

The cold git so deep I to the ground that water mains were freezing and breaking. My vehicles sure hated to run in that weather. It feels like a spring day today as it is only -17 and -24 with the wind chill.

I remember my daughter going to school in Canada, and it being 4 degrees in the morning, and as he had to wait for a bus to take her to school. This was in Nova Scotia. Beautiful area but terribly cold. And then there was the time she was caught in a blizzard in the airport with a delayed flight. She was there 3 days! She didn't last long there, finished at home in New Jersey.
