Guys & girls of GAG how many of you believe that America is an English-speaking country & that everyone should speak English regardless of background?

I'm honestly curious what when if the British hadn't lucked into the colonist opporunity America would be predominantly Spanish, with Dutch to the East, French to the North and English would be a severe minority.

The vast majority of people here speak English, so yes. It doesn't have an official language, but English is undoubtedly the most used language here. And I do believe that knowing how to communicate with the majority of people in the country you live in is the obvious, intelligent thing to do.

The point of language is to communicate with one another. A singular language makes things easier. Since the USA was created by English colonists it makes sense the official language would be English. I think the next most common language at the time would have been Cherokee. The Navajo may have been bigger then, but they weren't inside what the USA was at that time.
