At least once a month when I was drinking over the past several years, sometimes multiple times a week.
[Waking up hungover]
Me: Oh geez, what did I do or say this time?
I quit drinking though towards the end of last year! So far I haven't had a need to question my decisions since. Yay!

  the intense fear that i somehow said or did something to fuck up a relationship with somebody is strong after a heavy drink. i think they call it drinker's remorse.

All the time. Which is odd, because I believe freedom of choice is an illusion.
But if that's true I can't choose not to question my life choices either.

  I always figured that accountability is useful regardless of whether or not metaphysical free will exists. Suppose a deterministic machine, for example, like an AGI where we can examine its internal neural state and always predict with 100% accuracy what it will do next based on that state and even replicate it in other bots who would do exactly the same thing (proof of deterministic behavior).
  
  Even then it's a defective machine if it can't learn from its mistakes. So whether or not we can help it, accountability is extremely important as I see it. It's vital even if we're just deterministic machinery at the end of the day.
